“Au fil des souvenirs”/“Through Memories” is a game concept developed as part of the creative portfolio I made for the ENJMIN 2020 entrance exam.

The subject given was a photograph of four different pieces of fabric:

tweed, embroidered linen, a cotton/synthetic blend, and denim.

We were then asked to come up with a main game concept and, for the game design section I was applying to: develop a presentation of the gaming experience, create mockups, gameplay loops, diagrams, develop characters, and describe a gameplay sequence.

Finally, we had to suggest two other concepts inspired by the subject in a more succinct format and explain the creative process behind the portfolio.

In “Au fil des souvenirs”/“Through Memories”, we discover the story of Nini, a 95 years old grandma.

Throughout the game, she knits a patchwork blanket, each small square of wool representing a particular memory.

As we travel through her memories, we embody Nini from the past in short interactive scenes that have made an impact on her life.

To the world, Nini is considered a successful woman. She founded a family, worked, had a little house, good friends, a lovely child...

Yes, but Nini has neglected herself. All her life, she has put others first, as she was always taught to do.

So, in an ode to self-love, she takes a look back at her long life and examines the journey she has made so that, when the time comes, she can go in peace.
