Forestia is an educational point-and-click game released in 1999 that had left a strong impression in my childhood and greatly contributed to my actual vision of game development.
Having long dreamed of new missions and stories in the game's universe, and lacking the ability to mod it I've chosen to pay tribute to the it by recreating the game in Unreal and in imagining new adventures in its universe.
Initially, I imagined missions that would capture the atmosphere of the forest as well as the main gameplay elements and the "discovery and edutainment" vision of the original game .
I then recorded a walkthrough of the original game forest in order to create a reconstruction of the environment in 3D using Unreal Engine.
Afterward I made a point-and-click camera system in blueprint, using the original game's camera angles while adding some new extra cameras needed for the missions I wanted to create.
In the same way, I also recreated the UI and mechanics of the original game. like the journal, the camera or the objects box.
Finally, I've designed and started to make the mini-games that would take part in my first mission.
This mission entitled "The Forest feast" is currently under development.
In this adventure , the forest inhabitants are organizing their annual feast, to which we are invited as the player. The only requirement to participate is simple, you need to bring some dishes to share :
a starter, a main course and a dessert.
To do so, players must collect what they need to cook the meal by following a given list of ingredients that can be both found in the forest or given by performing a mini-game.
