MONOBLOC [Can you land that f***ing spaceship]

Monobloc is an alternative controller game that can be played from 2 to 4 people in cooperation. It's a spaceship landing simulation in which players have to power back on the various modules composing the spaceship to dodge the impending crash before it's too late.

Project was made in colaboration with Erwann Surcouf, Marine Drouin and Younes Balandjian during Les Chimérides incubator created by East Games association.

Project incubation was divided as it follows:

  • Meeting other participants and East Games team.

  • Concept submissions and teaming up around the ones that inspired us.

  • Development of the selected concepts

  • One week workshop in Strasbourg hosted by Ateliers Eclairés to build physically our projects.

  • Public exhibition of our creation hosted by Ateliers Eclairés in early July 2026.

Even now that the incubation program ended we benefit form a mentoring of East Games to help us manage diffusion and exploitation of what we made during Les Chimérides.

My missions on this project :

  • Game concept development : each member brainstormed alone and then we've put everything together in an Miro board before exploring every aspects that sparked interest to us.

  • Creation and documentation of game mechanics : once the main design intention were approved by the team, I created a documentation system that allowed each member to suggest game mechanics. Then we selected which ones where the most interesting to us while taking budget and the time we would have to work on it during the workshop into account. Once the selection done, I took care of explaining each mechanic in a document covering every situation that can append in game. It made coding easier and helped creating a clear communication structure between our Godot instance and Arduinos, as well as ease the production of the physical elements later on.

  • Identification of material needs and budgetization :  while documenting game mechanics it was necessary to take the cost of what we were creating into account. To do so we evaluated our needs and prioritized what we thought were essential while consideration what the Atelier Eclairés was providing us with. This allowed us to place an order toward East Games that would take care of having all our gear ready for the workshop.

  • Setup of Arduino systems : relying on design documentation I could prepare the necessary elements for the construction of the electronical systems, as well as setting up the code files for each module. Marine then took care of the conception of the electronics and soldering while Younes wrote the majority of the code.

  • Building the structure : using the drawings and 3D models made by Erwann we defined the dimensions of the elements and cut the wooden parts according to these dimensions. Then I've assemble the structure and created a modular system that allowed Marine to integrate the electrical part easily and made the structure simple to build and take apart.

  • Mediation for the exhibition : during the public exhibition of what we made during the Chimérides workshop we had guided tour for the public. During those I had the opportunity to present Monobloc and our design intentions to the audience. In parallel we've take turn the whole day to greet the visitors, introduce them to our creation, explain the game, supervise them while they were playing and of course answer their questions.
